Gary Allan at Whitewater Amphitheater 2025

Gary Allan was at Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels, TX on June 21, 2025, with Mark Mackay and Palmer Anthony opening the show.

Here are some video highlights of the show!

Alison Krauss and Union Station at Whitewater Amphitheater

Alison Krauss and Union Station brought their Arcadia album release tour and Willie Watson to Whitewater Theater back in May. Here is a video sampling from the show!

Ryan Bingham at Whitewater Amphitheater

Below are some photos and video from Ryan Bingham back on May 30th at Whitewater Amphitheater.

Ryan Bingham has performed at Whitewater quite a few times over the years since 2013, we also saw him back in 2016 with Willie Nelson. This show happened 9 days after Merle Haggard died, he was supposed to perform at this show as well.

Here's a show from March of 2014 with Merle Haggard plus Wade Bowen and Randy Roger's infamous "Hold My Beer" tour. This was back when publicist rules were looser and I was in the pit more often, iPhone photo sensors were garbage (comparitively) and I didn't know how to keep a video down to a reasonable length. :-)

Willie Nelson, Robert Earl Keen and The Jakes at Whitewater Amphitheater

Whitewater Amphitheater's official/unofficial kick off to thier 2025 concert season happened on Friday, April 18th with Willie Nelson and Family w/Robert Earl Keen. The Jakes from Fredericksburg played on the biergarten stage before the gates officially opened. Things have changed quite a bit at Whitewater since I was last there in 2018, but there is definitely a noticeable ease and joy from the staff that I encountered, and the night went off flawlessly... Well, except for some quick, technical issues getting Mattson Rainer's mic hot when he was announcing Robert Earl Keen.

Robert Earl Keen concluded his career as a touring musician in September 2022, but like many who have spent most of their adult lives entertaining large crowds, it's an intoxicant that is difficult to resist. After multiple attempts at finding new hobbies, he decided to spend his retirment doing what he loves the most, entertaining large crowds and continuing to write and record music. Among his accomplishments over the past couple of years, he experienced his Grand Ol Opry debut in March, he'll play Red Rocks Amphitheater on May 9 with Turnpike Troubadours, and will return to Gruene Hall on May 17.

Willie Nelson has assembled a perfect band to accompany him while still maintinaing a relatively busy touring schedule for a 91 year old. Up front with Willie is Waylon Payne who has not only had a very successful career as a songwriter and performing musician, but also has had some success in acting including expertly portraying Jerry Lee Lewis in the 2005 film "Walk The Line". He is also joined up front by his surprisingly entertaining youngest son Micah Nelson, and with 2 guitars and 2 voices adding to Willie, the sound is thick with harmony and both hints of Willie as a younger man and sounds that are both classic and new and bring a brand of Willie to yet another generation in a way that gives them an experience of the history of music as well as fresh, new songs that resonated with the crowd. There are people of all ages on hand for this chapter of Willie, including parents introducting their kids to music that was played for them as children by their parents. It's hard to believe that the original outlaws of country music are all but gone, but for now we still have Willie Nelson, and he's still got us.

Josh Ward continues streak of #1 songs!

Nashville, TN (June 13, 2018) - Over the course of three album releases, pure country music artist Josh Ward has proven himself to be a radio magnet. His two previous albums “Promises” in 2012 and “Holding Me Together” in 2015 have generated a combined total of nine #1 hit singles making Ward a steadfast resident of the Texas Regional Radio Chart for seven years running. What started out as a sprint in 2012 has now settled into a marathon pace as his brand new single “All About Lovin’” off his new album hit #1 this week. So, hand this man a water bottle as he strides through his TENTH consecutive #1.

“Can’t thank radio enough for their constant support of my music. To have come this far seems so surreal and I am a very grateful man. I am also so grateful to my fans, the very people I make this music for. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have places to play or milestones like this to celebrate. –Josh Ward

Josh Ward’s fourth full length album “More Than I Deserve” was released on May 4th and has amassed just shy of 300,000 streams in the first few weeks of release. The album debuted at #15 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart and debuted at #5 on the iTunes country albums chart. Critic’s praises call the album “next level,” “a solid, neo-traditional sound,” “powerful with spirituality-infused imagery” and ”a true country album from start to finish.” To date, Ward’s music has garnered over 2 million views on YouTube and over 3 million streams on Spotify globally. With such mass appeal and a demand for his live show, Ward’s tour schedule will expand into a lot of new territory this year.

Josh will be at Whitewater Amphitheater w/Cody Jinks on July 6th and 7th!

Miranda Lambert at Whitewater Amphitheater

Miranda Lambert's Highway Vagabond tour made a stop in New Braunfels for two nights in a row at Whitewater Amphitheater. Wade Bowen opened both nights at Whitewater, and will continue on with Miranda for two shows at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado in the form of he and Randy Rogers' Hold My Beer Tour.

It was a great night and I was told despite the fact they've had numerous shows sell out, they were expecting record bodies through the gates for the two shows. Wade Bowen is one of New Braunfels' many talented residents, and his opening for Miranda was not by any stretch a decision made at the last minute. In fact, Wade told a story about how when Miranda was 16 and would frequent Bowen's shows with her mother, she told Wade that when she one day made it big, she would have him open for her. I'm not sure how seriously he took her at the time, but her promise has come to fruition multiple times over. Both Wade Bowen and Miranda Lambert put on fantastic, high energy shows.

Miranda's last stop at Whitewater Amphitheater was in June of 2010 with her Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour which also included Wade Bowen and a guest appearance of another New Braunfels resident Cody Canada. It was later that year in October when Cody and his former band Cross Canadian Ragweed played their final show ever at Joe's on Weed Street in Chicago.

Here are a few shots from the Friday night show!

Joel Schoepf pulls the Trigger

When we go see some of our favorite bands play live shows, we don't always think about the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. Joel Schoepf is one of these highly talented folks that has seen many miles on the road and is VERY skilled at making sure all the T's and I's are taken care of. Joel spent a few years out with Cross Canadian Ragweed then Cody Canada and The Departed, plus he has worked with Jack Ingram, Roger Creager, Dickson Productions and is currently full time production manager at John T. Floore's Country Store.

This photograph was taken by Mike Fackler, who is production manager at ACL Live and a stage manager for Willie Nelson & Family. Mike is the stage manager for the main stage at Willie's 4th of July picnic. The photo shows Joel tuning up Willie Nelson's beloved Martin N-20 "Trigger" before Willie joined Neil Young plus Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real on stage at Whitewater Amphitheater on Tuesday, April 26th! Soak in the greatness of this photo, and think about how few people have likely been allowed to come within 5 feet of this legendary guitar!

VIDEO: Recap of Willie Nelson and Ryan Bingham

Who: Willie Nelson and Family + Ryan Bingham
When: Friday April 15, 2016
Where: Whitewater Amphitheater, New Braunfels

My wife and I saw Willie Nelson at Whitewater in 2010 with Ray Wylie Hubbard and Seth Walker opening the show, and at the time that was the best live show I had ever been to. I don't know if it was the spirit of Merle Haggard hanging in the air or something else, but Ryan Bingham opened the show and then he and his band got back up toward the end of Willie's set for a couple of Merle Haggard songs and they closed the show with a gospel set. MAN what a show! Willie always speaks through some lyrics of some songs, but try singing the same stuff for 40 or 50 years just because everybody wants to hear them and I'm sure you'd lose a little of your drive for giving 100% to those songs each time too! He did, however do MUCH less of that this time than he did in 2010, and I would say everything was almost perfect! Whitewater has done a great job rebuilding from the floods last May and October, and as usual they rebuilt bigger and better!

View photos from this show on Facebook<== LOOK!

Below I'm including a sample of Willie's show, and I'll eventually get a Ryan Bingham video posted as well, but I have to get this up soon, because I want you all to see how great this show was! I also might post a few complete songs to YouTube as well, so be on the lookout!

Also, thank each and every one of you for following Music of New Braunfels and reading what I post, it really means a lot that so many of you have found this service useful! Please make sure you follow me on Facebook and Twitter, too!

SO Sad to hear of the death of Merle Haggard

SO SAD to hear of the death of Merle Haggard

March 2014 at Whitewater Amphitheater
My original post is below, but tragically I just found out that Merle Haggard passed away today... I will add more information later if some becomes available...

Ben Haggard
Here is a post from Ben Haggard's Facebook page at 1pm today:
"A week ago dad told us he was gonna pass on his birthday, and he wasn't wrong. A hour ago he took his last breath surrounded by family and friends. He loved everything about life and he loved that everyone of you gave him a chance with his music. He wasn't just a country singer.. He was the best country singer that ever lived."

--original post--
Merle Haggard turns 79 today, join me in wishing him a happy birthday and speedy recovery from some recent health crud he's been dealing with that forced him to cancel shows in both March and April so far this year. Sorry that he won't be at Whitewater later this month, but I wish him well and hope to see him on stage again real soon!

Here's some video from that 2014 performance at Whitewater...

Cleanup volunteers needed at Whitewater Amphitheater!

Among the many hit hard by this storm, Whitewater Amphitheater took some pretty extensive damage today when the Sattler exit gauge hit well over 7000cfs. The video below is after the flooding in May when the exit gauge was at 5300cfs and there was water over the road in a few places on River Road. They are going to begin cleanup efforts in the morning and could use some volunteer help!

If you're able to safely make it to Whitewater and help them begin the cleanup, please direct message me on Twitter or Facebook or contact me via my contact tab on this website.

If it's Saturday morning after about 10 and you want to come help, just show up and Whitewater and ask for Angie or Brian (me) because I'll probably be in the muck for awhile with no phone.

Thank you!
