FREE STUFF: The Boxers' LP "The Boxers"

Blake Powers and Fallon Franklin are both accomplished musicians as well as cousins that have good musical chemistry together. Blake Powers is the 2003 winner of the B.W. Stevenson Memorial Singer/Songwriter Competition held annually at Poor David's Pub in Dallas, TX, as well as a finalist in the 2002 Kerrville Folk Festival. Fallon Franklin was the first to ever participate as a solo performer in the annual University of Texas spring review, and was a top 25 finalist on America's Got Talent's 2nd season in 2007. Awards don't make talent and don't force chemistry however, but these two have sung together since their childhood and the talent and chemistry are evident.

Blake and Fallon performed together at the 2013 Blowin' Off Steamboat Music Festival where they performed primarily songs from their soon to be released LP titled The Boxers. The Boxers is a band name they commonly perform under, so this first release is self-titled and full of songs written by both Powers and/or Franklin. Instrumentals are very well done on this record, but most notably Fallon's multi-Grammy award winning fiddle playing cousin Larry Franklin (formerly of Asleep at the Wheel, Cooder Browne and more) laid down the fiddle on the track Angry Bones. Not long after the release of The Boxers, Fallon slowed down playing live shows a bit during her pregnancy and birth of her and husband Joey's (who also happens to play drums with The Boxers) second child, but now they are working on ramping back up their live performance schedule including regular stops at Salt Lick BBQ, Kirby's and Adobe Verde in New Braunfels on Sunday March 2nd. People will finally get more exposure to this great record, and can pick up a copy at a show or buy it on iTunes or CD Baby.
